What's New in November...........

November 2011

As you can see we had some pretty awesome little critters for Halloween! The class celebrated with a Halloween parade, fun, games, and snacks! Thank you to all the parents who helped make this such a fun day!

We are continuing to enjoy our high school science buddies and animals they bring. This week we have a ball python snake. Thanks to a very generous parent donation, our class received a childproof cage. With a small grant I applied for we also got a stand for it to sit on.

Just yesterday we went to an all school assembly called Wild About Reptiles and Amphibians. The children LOVED it!

We are currently in the middle of a "change war". School wide we are collecting any and all change for our local county JCMA Christmas Bureau. The money will be used to provide food, coats and toys for boys and girls in our community. The winning class receives a Pizza Party! So far the preschoolers have collected $287.88 their first day! WOW!

BUSY BUSY BUSY Preschoolers!

We have been very busy with lots of activities! Two weeks ago we started a unit on Community Helpers and Transportation. We took a field trip to Custom Creations where we made our own t-shirts and we saw what a t-shirt maker does. Then we had 3 different community workers come to our classroom to talk about their jobs and their transportation. Volunteer Fire fighter Cole Gerhardt visited both classes and talk about his job, how to stay safe in case of a fire, and not to be scared of firefighters. Julie Hessed came and gave Miss Kay a haircut and pretended on several students to demonstrate the skills and equipment needed to be a hair stylist. Sheriff Morse and Under Sheriff Chapman came and showed us their car, turned the sirens on and handed out books, pencils and official sticker badges.
We have also been having a blast with High School Animal Science. We currently have an Albino Corn Snake and just sent back a Bearded Dragon.
This week we have started talking about Monsters and Pumpkins. On October 18 and 19 we will be going to Renyer Pumpkin Patch and celebrating Halloween with games and custome.

News In the ECSE Classroom!

Wow! The last couple of weeks have just flown by! We just finished 10 days of learning our colors and shapes. Each day the children dressed in that color and brought items the same color and the shape of the day. Almost all the children can show you the sign language for all the colors. It was a fun time had by all! In the next two weeks we will be studying community helpers and transportation. On Tuesday, September 20, we will be taking a field trip to Holton to the t-shirt shop. Each child will learn about being a t-shirt maker. They will make their own class shirt and then we go to the community park to play. We will have a fire fighter, police officer, and a hair dresser come to the class to talk about their professions as well. We have started our animal science project with the high school class. Last week we had a tarantula. We fed it grasshoppers (without the legs) and kept it full of water. This week we have 4 baby snakes. It is teaching us all not to fear animals and how to take care of them. The high school students are wonderful! Next week is spirit week. We will be celebrating homecoming week and cheering for the Cobras!!!! We have learned a new cheer GO COBRAS! :0) I know.....real original right? We would love for everyone to be a part of our pep assembly at 2:40 at the high school next Friday. Jackson Heights is up for a wonderful award for school spirit. The following dress attire for next week is in support of the week: Monday wear pajamas Tuesday: 50's day Wednesday: 60's day and Thursday 80's and Friday: green and gold day

Welcome 2011! Happy New Year to everyone!

Welcome back to school everyone! I had a wonderful Christmas break and wasn't sure I was ready to come back to school. However, after being here I am getting excited about what the next few weeks will bring!  I am so excited about our "Reading" program, Imagine It! We have really been focusing on hearing (oral communication) sounds in our environment. We have been breaking words into syllables, breaking words up in sentences, and listening to sounds around us. This 2nd semster we will finish introducing each letter of the alphabet and then start connecting beginning sounds with words. As you have noticed as well we have been sending home site words and simple stories called predecodable books. These books help the children begin to read. So far we have learning the words a, and and the. Also, we have introduced the letters A-J.
Some new news! The semester we will be learning Spanish! Kelly White, our high school Spanish teacher will be teaching the kids once a week! We are SOOOOO excited! :)

Continue to watch for exciting things in our room! :)

Sincerely, Kay

Our Trip to Medical Lodges.

The AM and PM classes along with Kindergarten went Christmas caroling to Medical Lodges Dec. 2010. The residents really really enjoyed the children coming. What a neat way to integrate generations!
